The Challenge
The leadership team had ambitious ideas for guest experiences, but the marketing department was stretched thin. They needed someone who could take a rough concept and build it immediately.
The Solution
Accelerated campaign launches by delivering rapid initial designs for menus and posters so management could move straight to final review.
Built the Mother's Day flower wall and FIFA mini golf lobby activation in-house, using an art academy background to design and produce both quickly, saving the hotel outside design costs and turnaround time.
Applied guest facing experience from retail sales and client communication at an art academy to connect with guests directly, driving 100+ participants at the FIFA activation and 40+ new followers from Surrey Fusion Festival alone.

Mother's Day Flower Bar
After a previous Mother's Day activation drove just 2 social tags despite a free penthouse-night giveaway, I diagnosed the incentive model as the problem. A 2-winner structure gave most guests no reason to participate.

COST EFFECTIVE LOBBY ACTIVATIONS

COST EFFECTIVE LOBBY ACTIVATIONS

Taking the brand off-site and turning it into
40+ new followers in a day.
At the festival, I stepped outside the hotel and represented Sheraton directly to the public, promoting Root Beer Float Day, the hotel's charity event for Children's Miracle Network, and its sponsorship of the Surrey Arts Festival.
Acting as the brand's ambassador on the ground meant I could turn a passive info table into an instant conversion point, trading branded merch for a follow.
That drove 40+ new social media followers in two days and connected a local nonprofit director directly to the right person at the hotel.

Mother's Day Flower Bar
I set up a lobby photo station during lunch service, and guests lined up on their own, genuinely excited. But the contest required winning the most likes to earn a Penthouse night, which meant posting a family photo publicly just to be considered. Only 2 guests entered, and that gap became the data that shaped the next campaign.

Mini Football Golf
(FIFA World Cup Activation)
For the FIFA activation, I redesigned the incentive completely. Every guest who played mini golf received a Marriott Bonvoy souvenir, no contest, no likes needed. Removing that friction let vacationing families and busy conference travellers join without hesitation, and participation jumped past 100 guests.

Turning a Festival Booth Into 40+ New Followers

Turning a Festival Booth Into 40+ New Followers
Gained 40+ new Instagram and Facebook followers in one day from the booth.
Gained 40+ new Instagram and Facebook followers in one day from the booth.
I built a repeatable format for the hotel's ticket giveaways, covering Football, Basketball, and Softball events on the same simple setup.
Each one started with a short-form video asking people to comment to enter, then I pulled commenters into a spin wheel to pick and hand out winners live.
Watching the wheel land kept people checking back and commenting on the next giveaway too, and each round delivered 100+ participants with hotel-published short-form video for the property's social channels.

Florist
Florist
I was working part time at a flower shop when Mother's Day planning started, so I went straight to the owner with exactly what the hotel needed, which flowers, how many, and where in the lobby.
That existing relationship let me pick up shifts the day before and the day of to prep everything myself, then install the display in person.

Dessert & Tea Vendors
Dessert & Tea Vendors
For vendors I didn't already know, I cold emailed dessert and tea suppliers around Vancouver to compare retail pricing and quantities, then reported back to my manager.
For La Forêt Catering, I used a personal connection to get introduced directly, which got me a brochure and a response back faster than the standard process would have.

Reflection
What I actually learned at this job was to think efficiently, and to lead with what people already want instead of what I assumed they'd want.
The Mother's Day contest asked guests to compete for likes, which wasn't what a family on a lunch break wanted, so it barely worked. Redesigning it into a simple giveaway for the FIFA activation gave people what they actually wanted, and engagement jumped past 100. I proposed carrying that same fix into later giveaways for football, basketball, and softball tickets, and my manager and I adjusted the small details each time.
That's what I'd bring to any marketing team, checking what people actually want before building anything, and turning that into results fast.
